Helicrane – a Boon to the Transmission Industry

Image
Unlike a traditional coal-powered power plant, it takes 12 to 18 months to complete a wind or solar power plant. However, the construction speed of transmission lines still hasn’t improved. At present, it takes nearly 3-4 years to complete its construction. This is a matter of great concern. No matter how many renewable energy (RE) plants we build, the industry will be unable to energize these clean energy plants due to lack of proper evacuation infrastructure. With the world inclining towards clean energy, overcoming the time constraint in transmission sector is vital. Leveraging aerial technology for handling some of the cumbersome tasks associated with construction of transmission projects is a way forward. Today we will focus on one such technological breakthrough – the helicrane ; and how it can prove to be a boon for the transmission industry. helicrane A sustainable infrastructure development with helicranes Used for the first time as aerial cranes back in t...

Spotting the Barriers in Renewable Transmission

With the installed renewable energy capacity of 83,000 MW and 66,000 MW under execution and bidding respectively, India’s renewable energy precis looks promising. In addition, a recent report by Central Electricity Authority (CEA) states that India’s total installed power capacity is projected to be around 480 GW by the end of 2021-22. The country’s transmission infrastructure for the evacuation of clean power, however, is still in a fragile state. Even though the central government’s green energy corridor (GEC) initiative is being established, there are certain hurdles that need to be crossed for a reliable renewable transmission system in the country. renewable transmission Challenges in setting up evacuation infrastructure: As compared to setting up a solar or a wind project, which takes almost 12-18 months, establishing a transmission infrastructure can take as much as five-six years. One of the biggest challenges is to ensure that before the completion of renewa...
